I’m Octomaster. Here’s your key to a world of words.

Unlocking the World Through Words.

Octomaster, your learning companion

Before we begin

Our approach

01

Build the words you can read and spell

Words are the building blocks of language. But learning a word’s pronunciation, spelling, and meaning all at once can be demanding. Octospell focuses on reading and spelling; a brief meaning appears during Learn for reference, with no requirement to memorize it.

By focusing your attention on sound and spelling, you can build a larger bank of familiar words, ready for meaning to grow through reading and life.

02

See the sounds within the word

Octophonics uses Octomarks to reveal the sound units within a word while preserving its original spelling. Sounds become visible, and the word’s structure becomes clear.

Once you know the Octomarks and how to combine them, you can read any correctly marked English word with confidence and accuracy—even a word you have never seen before.

03

Build a foundation for meaning

Reading Pivot Theory proposes a path for growing vocabulary: first build a bank of connections between pronunciation (P) and spelling (O). Later, through texts, conversation, and everyday experience, meaning (S) can connect with these familiar sounds and forms.

Reading and spelling practice prepares the P–O foundation; subsequent encounters develop it into a P–O–S triangle of sound, spelling, and meaning. You do not need to learn everything about a word at once.

04

Make spelling a way to connect

There are no fixed teacher and student roles here—just partners learning to spell together. Invite friends into a temporary study group, work toward a shared goal, and disband when the task is done. Learn together on your own terms.

Form a Squad, challenge another team to a word duel, or enter a league. Shared preparation and friendly competition turn spelling into a new way to spend time together.

05

Let your effort earn Inkles

Earn Inkles by practicing spelling, sharing your own Wordlets in the public Library for others to learn, and taking part in word duels and leagues.

Your growing word bank shows what you can read and spell. Your Inkles record another part of the journey: the practice, sharing, and challenges you have contributed along the way.
